How to Build a Web Site, Where to start and getting organized.

Building a web site for many is no easy task. Where do you start and how do you know it is exactly what your audience will need? What do you need to get started in making a web site?

Plan your budget - Have a range of what you want to spend on a website. The old saying you get what you pay for is true however with a range of budget can open the doors to many online website functions and opportunities that you may have not even thought of using.

Who or what is your target - Who are you trying to reach, grab ahold of and keep people coming back to your website? Do you want to present yourself as a professional or is your web site going to be entertaining to your audience?

Look and feel - Decide what type of color palate you would like to use on your website. A good web developer / designer can help you with selecting color choices for your website depending on what action you would like for the web site viewer to do. Colors enable action, set moods and can

Gather content. It is a good idea when setting goals and starting a website to have all content ready. You can eventually add on to a web site, but having the initial content ready for your site before it goes live is critical. Ever been to a web site that says "under contruction"? This reflects on a company that they are not organized or ready. Have a list of pages you would like to have when initially starting your site. Have the wording and information ready for each page, and even specific pictures that must be included.

Search for available domain (s) - Search for words or names relevant to your site. Keep in mind also branding in your name or the name of your company. People usually search by company name or initials you may use in branding. The shorter the URL the easier it will be for people to find you as well as finding you through search engines.

Hosting - You will have to host your web site on a server for your web site to be seen. This is where your web site is stored. There are alot of different types of hosting companies out there and cheaper is NOT always better.  You will have to take into consideration how your site is being built, what software is being used and what script your site is being written in to make sure your server supports these.

When building a website at CWebArt, we help you through this process and help organize things before you go live on the web.
